A 69-year-old who returned from Dubai under treatment for coronavirus infection in Kalamassery Medical College hospital passed away marking the first COVID-19 death in the state.
His wife also tested positive for coronavirus. They had returned from Dubai on March 16 and all 40 passengers who were in the flight with them have been placed under observation.
They were transferred to the isolation ward in the hospital on March 22. The driver who picked him up from Nedumbassery airport was also diagnosed with coronavirus. 40 people who interacted with this driver are under observation
As per reports the deceased was a heart patient and was suffering from high blood pressure. His body will be cremated as per protocol. Only a few people will be allowed to take part in the funeral ceremony as per the strict guidelines issued by authorities.
Meanwhile, Kerala Health Minister K. K. Shailaja stated that the medicos tried their maximum to save the patient’s life. But an existing heart condition, high blood pressure and old age-related issues along with COVID-19 resulted in the death.
