In a major setback to Pakistan’s efforts to internationalise Kashmir issue, Bangladesh refused to side with it on the Kashmir issue. Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen asked Pakistan to hold talks with India and solve the issue bilaterally for the benefit of regional peace.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had called up Bangladesh foreign minister to garner support to Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue. Qureshi had called up his Bangladeshi counterpart and complained about Indian actions in Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier, Bangladesh had maintained that the Indian move in Kashmir was an internal matter. Most of the SAARC nations including Maldives, Sri Lanka and Nepal too have maintained the stand that Kashmir is an internal matter for India and hence the moves do not require any international intervention.
In a bid to highlight the Kashmir issue internationally, Pakistan has announced setting up of a new propaganda division. The foreign office of Pakistan on Tuesday inaugurated its new Kashmir Cell.
