In another major setback to Pinarayi Vijayan led the communist government, the Kerala High Court on Thursday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to continue the probe into the Wadakkanchery Life Mission project. HC also refused to pronounce an interim verdict in the plea demanding to stop the CBI probe in the project.
Government argued in the court that the allegations against the project were politically motivated and no terms were violated in implementing it. The state government only involved in the project to identify suitable land for the construction of housing complex and had undertaken no financial dealings, said senior lawyer KV Viswanathan appearing for government through video conference.
The Congress leader’s complaint was because of political rivalry. Life Mission project solely aims at building houses for the poor. The fund was offered by UAE Red Crescent following the flood havoc. The Life Mission project doesn’t come under foreign aid, he further argued in the HC.
Meanwhile, CBI informed the court that a probe was essential in the project to find out the misappropriations. How can a party, which is not an accused in the case, approach the court demanding to cancel the probe, CBI further argued. Following this HC permitted CBI to continue with the probe into the project.
