Dear Mr Archbishop of Delhi Anil Couto,
A few days ago, you asked Christians in this country to hold prayers and observe a fast every Friday to bring in a “secular government” in 2019. You said under the present government, “turbulent political atmosphere” prevails in the country which “threatens democracy and secularism”. You obviously implied that the present government is not secular.
But days later, when Kummanam Rajasekharan (Kerala ex-BJP president) was appointed Governor of Mizoram, Christian outfits like GCIC and PRISM objected to his appointment and said, he should be driven out of Mizoram. And why so? Because “Mizoram is a Christian state”.
I thought you Archbishop, who just emphasised how the Indian state should be secular, would be disturbed to hear this…I thought you would call these silly Christian outfits and ask them to shut their mouth up…I thought you would tell them that Mizoram is part of India which is a secular state and hence Mizoram too is a secular state, and not a Christian state as they believe.
But you did none of this.
You were silent.
And we know what silence implies. It implies approval.
So now we know that your call for establishment of a secular government in the country was actually a subtle way to ask Christians to vote on communal lines and not on the parameters of development as voters in any mature democracy do.
We now know that the Christian outfits who say that Mizoram is a Christian state have your full support. We know that like them, you too believe that a state with a Christian majority population should be run, not according to the Constitution of India, but according to the Vatican from whom you receive your orders.
My congratulations to you guys for giving a new meaning to secularism. Earlier, it meant separation of Church from the State. Now in Mizoram, the Church wants to run the State.
But trust me – Italians are not coming back to power in India anytime soon.
Jai Hind !!!
