The Kerala forest department has arrested three people in connection with another incident of cruelty towards animals in the state. Similar to that of the last incident where a pregnant elephant was killed in another district, the present case is also by feeding explosive-filled pineapple.
The elephant was found injured in the forest on April 11, however preliminary investigations led forest official to reach a conclusion that the elephant was hurt by a piece of wood accidentally. However, an autopsy report revealed that the injury was caused by explosives.
As per police records, the accused were hunters targeting deer. However, the pineapple was eaten by an elephant which exploded in its mouth. The forest department officials said that further investigations are on. Officials also revealed that 2 more people are yet to be arrested in connection with the incident.
It was a few days ago the news of death of a pregnant elephant in Kerala shook the conscience of people across the country. Cruelty towards animals are common scenes in Kerala which has already invited attention of international media.
