Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the annual high-level UN General Assembly session on September 27. The PM is expected to have a packed agenda of bilateral and multilateral engagements during his nearly week-long stay in New York. Pak Prime Minister will also address the session on the same day.
Experts say that PM Modi could have a possible face-off over Kashmir with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan during the event. Both Modi and Khan are expected to address the UNGA on 27 September. Earlier this week, Khan said he was the “ambassador” of Kashmiri people and vowed to raise the matter at all possible international fora.
Modi’s schedule in the US includes a stop in Houston to address an energy conclave for increased India-US collaboration. He will also announce the formation of the Disaster Resilient Infrastructure initiative during his visit.
As prime minister, Modi had given his maiden address to world leaders at the UN General Assembly in 2014. His visit in September and address to world leaders at the UN will be the first after winning a second term as Prime Minister in a resounding electoral victory in May.
