The NIA court here on Sunday remanded Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, the accused in the Thiruvananthapuram airport diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case. They will be taken to a COVID-19 care centre.
It is learned that Sandeep will be taken to a COVID care centre at Karukutty in Angamaly while Swapna will be taken to a COVID care centre in Thrissur.
The NIA is likely to file a detailed petition seeking to take the accused in custody on Monday. Their coronavirus test results are likely to be out tomorrow. If Swapna and Sandeep test negative, they will be produced before the court and taken into custody. Following this, other procedures including questioning will be held.
Swapna and Sandeep, the second and fourth accused in the case respectively, were brought to the NIA office in Kadavanthra around noon.
Earlier, the officials had completed a medical check-up and COVID test of the two accused at the Aluva Taluk Hospital. After a round of interrogation at the NIA office, they were produced before the NIA Special Court.
