The Mumbai Police has sought a copy of the contract signed between Sushant Singh Rajput and Yash Raj Films, according to an agency report. Apart from the probe into the cause of the actor’s death, the investigators are also looking into allegations of abetment to suicide allegedly after being ousted from multiple films.
After his successful debut in Kai Po Che in 2012, Yash Raj Films had signed Sushant for a three-film contract. But his Shuddh Desi Romance in 2013 Detective Byomkesh Bakshy in 2015 could not make much impact on the box office, though his performance was highly appreciated.
There were reports that some camps in Bollywood targeted him which made big banners allegedly ‘boycotting’ him. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam claimed that he was removed from seven films in six months. Nirupam’s statement triggered much anger among the public.
Meanwhile, a group of people in Patna staged protest and said they won’t allow screening of films of Salman Khan and Karan Johar in Bihar.
The investigators spoke to his staff who said they couldn’t even now believe that he was no more. According to them, three days before his death by suicide the actor had paid salaries to all his staff and had said that he won’t be able to pay them further. To this staff had replied, “Aap ne humein itna sambhala hai, aagey hum kuch na kuch kar leinge. (You took care of us for so long. We will do something for ourselves.)”
The police also recorded statements of his business manager Shruti Modi and PR Radhika Nihalani, the report claimed. Shruti Modi stated that Sushant was involved with projects like a virtual reality gaming venture, a social service organisation named Nation India for world, a collaboration with students on environment and nature, a project named Dream 150 and another social project named Geniuses and Drop Outs, according to Republic.
The police recorded the statement of Rhea Chakraborty, rumoured to be the girlfriend, at the Bandra police station in Mumbai. Earlier, his friend and the director of his last film, Mukesh Chhabra also recorded his statement.
