In Gujarat, the Director-General of Police, DGP Shivanand Jha issued the first-ever code of conduct for use of social media by police personnel. As per the code, Police personnel and officers in Gujarat have been directed not to express their political views or be part of any anti-government drive on the internet.
This has come in the backdrop of an online campaign regarding the demand for pay hike for police personnel which evoked a huge response on social media. Mr Jha has ordered an inquiry into the alleged campaign and said such messages are deliberately being spread to instigate the police personnel.
The DGP said police personnel participating in such campaigns will have to face action. Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the three people from Gandhinagar for misleading the police personnel.
