Even as life limps back to normal in riot-hit Kasganj, fresh efforts are on to vitiate the atmosphere in the area, with members of pro-jihadi organization Popular Front of India visiting sensitive areas. The Popular Front sees an opportunity and wants to fish in troubled waters. According to a statement, a team including Popular Front North Zonal president AS Ismail, UP State incharge Moulana Mufti Mohammad Shazad and others visited the victims. “The leaders offered to stand with them in their fight for justice,” said the statement.
Popular Front’s is inspired by Wahabi ideology which is the source of inspiration for Islamic State and other extremist organisations world over. Most of the IS modules in India have been linked to the Popular Front, which overtly acts as a social organization. Its purpose is to increase jihadi strike capacities during peace time.
Meanwhile, the main accused in the Chandan Gupta murder case in Kasganj was arrested on Wednesday even as a Congress delegation was stopped from entering the violence-hit district amid continuing tension in some pockets, according to media reports. “Saleem, the main accused, has been nabbed,” IG, Aligarh range, Sanjeev Gupta told Times of India. Aged below 30, Saleem, and his two brothers Naseem and Waseem were accused of killing 22-year-old college student Chandan Gupta, police officials told PTI.
Shooting of an ABVP worker who had taken part in a bike rally on January 26 had triggered violence in Kasganj.
The police said the attack was pre-planned as the accused had amassed weapons. The police have recovered weapons from the houses of some of the accused.
