Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold talks with Brazilian President Jair Messias Bolsonaro in New Delhi today. Several agreements will be signed after the talks. Brazilian President will be the chief guest at the Republic Day Parade tomorrow. Mr Bolsonaro will also meet President Ram Nath Kovind who will host a banquet in his honour today.
Brazilian President is accompanied by eight Ministers, four members of Parliament, senior officials and a large business delegation. This is the third time that a Brazilian President will be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day. New Delhi had hosted Brazilian Presidents Fernando Henrique Cardoso in 1996 and Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2004.
The bilateral engagements between India and Brazil are multi-faceted and they extend from political, economic, defence and security issues, to cooperation in the fields of agriculture, space, health and food processing. The current trade levels between the two nations is 8.2 billion dollars.
Brazilian President arrived in New Delhi yesterday on a four-day visit to India. Minister of State for External Affairs V Muralidharan received Mr Bolsonaro at the Air Force Station Palam. Mr Modi has welcomed the Brazilian President.
In a tweet, Mr Modi extended a warm welcome to the visiting dignitary. He said, India is delighted to host him and the nation is looking forward to his taking part in the Republic Day celebrations. The Prime Minister said, President Bolsonaro’s visit will add strength to India-Brazil relations.
