The Kerala government is looking at taking over Railway coaches in the wake of the rapid increase in Covid cases. The government mulls to deploy Covid care isolation coaches depending on the demand.
The railways have made available 4000 isolation coaches for Covid care. There are 64,000 beds in these coaches. The government is planning to make available these coaches. The government is holding talks with the Railways to bring these coaches and the secretary of the health department V Ratheesh has been appointed as the nodal officer. The government is also mulling to takeover lodges and hostels which have basic facilities for Covid patients. Hotels including KTDC will be taken over by the government.
As the state is going through a serious situation with covid-19 cases spreading very rapidly, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said there is no need for any panic and the entire state of Kerala will be under lockdown from May 8 to May 16.
