As per recent reports TK Pookoya, the managing director of Fashion Gold Jewellery and the first accused in the jewellery scam, might soon surrender in the court. He is likely to surrender if the court does not rule in favour of MLA MC Kamaruddin who has sought quashing of the case.
Pookoya Thangal evaded the police and went into hiding after secretly meeting his lawyer. Police had directed Pookoya to reach the office of the Kasargod district police chief at 3 pm on Saturday after Kamaruddin was arrested. However, Thangal went into hiding soon after learning about Kamarrudin’s arrest. His son Isham, another accused in the case, had earlier escaped to the Gulf to avoid arrest. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had conducted raids at Thangal’s house in Chandera on Saturday and Sunday.
The remand report submitted by Kasargod ASP Vivek Kumar stated that Pookoya was the first accused in the case while Kamarruddin was the second accused. The most important evidence is the agreement letter given to the investors while purchasing cash and gold. The terms of the agreement, which stipulates a monthly dividend and a return of investment if required in advance, have not been complied with.
The documents were examined and the statements of about 60 witnesses were obtained. According to the remand report, financial fraud of Rs 13 crore was found in four cases. Despite the MLA’s arrest, several victims have come up with complaints against him. Three more cases have been registered in connection with the embezzlement of crores of rupees bought as investment in jewellery. This brings the total number of cases to 117.
