Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac on Thursday said that practice of depending on consultancies for everything was started by Congress at the Centre. The minister said that the government did not award any contract to any firm without tender procedures.
“LDF government doesn’t resort to consultancies for each and every thing. Consultants are roped in as per requirement because many new projects which we are not familiar with are being implemented. Our government systems are capable only to handle budget responsibilities. For preparing detaild projects, we may need consultants’ help,” Isaac said.
“We are not of the stance that we will undertake only the projects that can be done without external help. We believe in implementing good projects for which consultants are appointed to study on the feasibility and prepare estimates,” he added. He also asked the Opposition to name the project undertaken without inviting tenders.
Responding to Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala’s allegation on Sabarimala airport that consultants were appointed even before acquiring land for the project, Isaac said that consultants were appointed for feasibility study.
“Consultants were appointed for feasibility study. Land should be identified and procured after feasibility study and not before,” he said.
