The Customs department is suspecting foul play in former IT secretary M Sivasankar remaining under treatment at medical college hospital when he was about to be interrogated in connection with the dollar smuggling case.
The probe agencies assume that the IAS officer is trying to gain time to approach the court for bail by spending time at the hospital.
The investigating officers informed their higher officials that a safe haven has been arranged for Sivasankar in the name of treatment, when he is suffering from only disc prolapse and no other serious health issues. The hospital authorities have arranged tight security for Sivsankar, who is currently admitted in the orthopedic ICU.
Only trusted employees are allowed to enter this area of the hospital. A medical board meeting will be convened on Monday to discuss the condition of Sivasankar and related matters. The decision regarding further treatment will be taken after the meeting.
