The Karnataka High Court has deferred hearing of the bail plea filed by Bineesh Kodiyeri over money laundering case to May 19. The High Court asserted that Bineesh’s remand for 7 months is not a reason for considering his bail plea urgently.
A bench headed by Justice Muhammad Navas considered Bineesh Kodiyeri’s bail plea on Wednesday.
During the hearing, the lawyer appeared for Enforcement Directorate requested the court to consider the bail plea after the lunch break citing the inconvenience of additional solicitor general SV Raju.
But the court responded that the case needs a detailed hearing and the vacation bench would not have time to complete the hearing on Wednesday.
Following this, Bineesh’s lawyer Adv. Gurukrishnakumar requested the court to grant interim bail to Bineesh as he has been imprisoned for 7 months.
“Black money was not deposited in Bineesh’s bank account. It was the money he earned from wholesale marketing of vegetables and fish. Bineesh didn’t receive money from Anoop Mohammed, accused in the Bengaluru drug case,” Bineesh’s lawyer informed the court.
Though the court opined that Bineesh’s bail can be listed after the holidays, the lawyer appealed to the court to consider the bail plea on next Wednesday itself.
Earlier, the Bengaluru special court dismissed Bineesh’s bail plea twice. Following this, he approached the High Court citing health issues of his father Kodiyeri Balakrishnan.
ED arrested Bineesh over charges of money laundering on October 29, 2020. He has been in Parappana Agrahara central prison from November 11.
