Jihadi graffiti on Kerala temple wall; could be handiwork of Marxists to create communal tension, say devotees

On early Vishu morning, devotees were shocked to find slogans painted on the walls of Vaikundeswaram Santhanagopala Murthy temple in Perunna, near Kottayam, Kerala. The graffiti reads:  Justice for Asifa, Islam.

The police have registered a case after temple authorities filed two separate complaints. On the look of it, the move was aimed at vitiating the communal atmosphere in those parts. Although Islamist organisations are active in those areas, it could be the handiwork of Marxists who seek to fish in the troubled waters, as campaigning for Chengannur byelection is underway, say locals.

The temple is being governed by Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samiti. Islamists and Marxists have launched a vicious campaign by dragging Hinduism and Hindu temples in the discourse in the wake of Kathua rape-murder case.
