The state government is planning to extend the school hours till evening. Currently, the classes are scheduled till noon only. The General Education Department is considering a proposal to extend the class hours till evening, by December.
The matter was brought under consideration after complaints were raised over teachers and students struggling to finish the syllabus on time. A meeting chaired by Minister V Sivankutty addressed the matter. Another meeting scheduled on Friday will discuss the possibilities of extending the school hours.
Meanwhile, the meeting with the minister also addressed the shortage of Plus One seats in the state. It is estimated that about 65 temporary batches will have to be allotted in seven districts to solve the seat shortage. The highest demand for batches is in Malappuram, Palakkad and Kozhikode districts. Some additional batches are required in taluks of Thrissur, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
Most of the students who opted Humanities and Commerce batches are yet to get admission. The meeting will convened on Friday to take a final decision regarding the new batches required ahead of the Second Supplementary Allotment. After the second supplementary allotment was published on Tuesday, 5491 students in Malappuram, 2002 in Palakkad and 2202 in Kozhikode are waiting for admission.
