After the Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday issued show-cause notices to almost 100 illegal occupants of apartments in Kashmiri migrant neighbourhoods in Jammu, a senior official said an exercise was underway to evict such people and accommodate genuine Kashmiri Pandit migrants instead in the government-built flats.
More than 100 illegal residents have been sent notices. Officials said that the evacuation of illegal residents will be carried out to ensure Kashmiri Pandits eligible for occupying the flats will only continue in the government-built flats. Officials also said that the present residents are asked to provide an explanation by March 10.
Commissioner in charge of rehabilitation TK Bhatt said that investigation has revealed that 93 flats were purchased in Mutti, Nagrota, Parkhu and Mini Township Jagti in Jammu illegally. Notices have been sent to all residents. This is just the beginning, the law will be enforced, he added. Meanwhile, residents of the area have come out in support of the government’s move.
