Food grains can be lifted from FCI for three months by states, says Nirmala Sitharaman

he Central Government on Monday has given a nod to all states and union territories to lift foodgrain for three months from the Food Corporation of India to ensure an adequate supply of foodgrains to the public in view of coronavirus.

“To ensure adequate supply of foodgrains to the public and financially assist the State Govts, Department of Expenditure, @FinMinIndia has agreed to the Food & Public Distribution Department’s proposal that foodgrain for 3 months can be lifted by States/ UTs on credit from FCI,” tweeted Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s office.

It added, ” This will ensure that the States do not face any cash constraint in distributing food to those in need.”
