With the government ordering an emergency evacuation of residents of a few villages, significant moves are likely near the Chinese border in Uttarakhand, reports media. The move is decided following a discussion with the National Security Agency. There have been reports of people fleeing from 14 villages along the border.
According to intelligence reports, people were evacuating from one village in Chamoli, eight villages in Pithorag, and five villages in Champawat. Dr Chakraborty, Chairperson of the Commission constituted to study illegal immigration in Uttarakhand SS Negi will immediately report it to the National Security Agency.
The National Security Council swung into action in this regard after reports that as many as 14 villages along the border were vacated by their inhabitants. One village in Chamoli, eight in Pithoragarh and five in Champawat areas have been vacated completely by people who lived there.
Apart from these, the population has reduced to half in at least eight villages over the past seven to eight years. There have also been reports of Chinese soldiers entering into the Indian territory on a regular basis. According to the sources, the Centre is planning to announce a special package for villages along the border with China.
