In the wake of Coronavirus outbreak in the country, Central Railway and Western Railway have today increased the prices of platform tickets from 10 to nearly 50 rupees till further orders. Both the Railway Zones have come out with this move to ensure crowd control and avoid unnecessary gathering of people at the stations in order to combat the threat of Corona infection.
A Central Railway Spokesman informed that the price will vary depending on the size of the station, but it will be 50 rupees at big stations.
Meanwhile, 76 trains are cancelled as precaution against the spread of coronavirus and due to low occupancy, officials said on Tuesday.
It has also issued a set of guidelines to zonal railways for its catering staff stating no employee having fever, cough, runny nose or difficulty in breathing “should be deployed in the business of food handling on Indian Railways”.
According to officials, central railways cancelled 23 trains, south central railways cancelled 29 trains, 10 trains were cancelled in western railway zone, 9 in south eastern railway zone and 5 in northern railway zone. The list includes some popular long haul trains.
