Perhaps Chidambaram or his notorious son wouldn’t be recollecting Ravi Srinivasan of Puducheri who was arrested for just tweeting that Karti Chidambaram was richer than Robert Vadra.
The investigative agencies sought the congress leader, most importantly a man who ‘decorated’ the position as powerful as a home minister and finance minister, for nearly 24 hours in connection with a corruption case. He finally appeared dramatically at the Congress headquarters on Wednesday evening to present an explanation and an appeal of sorts.
Chidambaram said if given a choice between life and liberty, he would choose liberty. “I believe the foundation of democracy is liberty. If asked to choose between life and liberty, I would choose liberty,” said the senior Congress leader who was not seen in public since the Delhi High court refused to protect him from arrest on Tuesday.
“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances”
Remembering Shakespeare’s words, when reporters continued their wait, the ‘hero’ Karti Chidambaram makes his dramatic entry justifying the deeds of his father!
Perhaps Chidambaram or his notorious son wouldn’t be recollecting Ravi Srinivasan of Puducheri who was arrested for just tweeting that Karti Chidambaram was richer than Robert Vadra. The ‘omnipotent’ hands of the former home minister and then finance minister didn’t take much time to arrest a poor man with just 40 followers in twitter for the ‘crime’ of pronouncing how rich his son was. When Chidambaram talks about human rights, democracy and liberty it is nothing but the face of Ravi Srinivasan that comes to our minds.
Chidambaram and his family’s name has cropped up in several cases, including Aircel Maxis, INX Media, Diageo Scotland and Katara Holdings, reminds India Today. These cases are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED). The India Today TV that accessed the details of the cases against Chidambaram gives us a glimpse into the alleged modus operandi followed by the former UPA minister:
According to government sources, P Chidambaram’s modus operandi revolved around granting illegal foreign investment (FIPB) clearances to receive kickbacks that were allegedly often paid through various shell companies floated by his son Karti Chidambaram. The investigating agencies have identified several such shell companies, registered in India and abroad, one among those companies had an investment of over Rs 300 crore. The shell company owned by former minister’s son Karti Chidambaram also received huge payments from a company located in British Virgin Island and this company had figured in Panama Papers as well, reports say.
The government sources say that the money in the shell companies was later rerouted to the Chidambaram’s family and was used by them for personal expenses.
“The deposits in these shell companies have been used for meeting personal expenditure of P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram, opening and depositing money in more than 2 dozen foreign bank accounts and purchasing several properties in Malaysia, Spain, UK, etc,” the sources said. The money was allegedly rerouted to the family through P Chidambaram’s granddaughter. The shareholders and directors of the main shell company have made their Will of transferring entire shareholding of the shell company to P Chidambaram’s granddaughter and executor of the Will is Karti Chidambaram, reports say.
Even the hardcore thieves wouldn’t have their skin as thick as Chidambaram and his son who had betrayed the country and stolen the money of people. However, the congress that has been robbing the country since decades is with him though helpless to extend their hands.
Within the lockup in the CBI headquarters that he visited last time as the finance minister and a chief guest when Chidambaram awaits his destiny, he must bend his head down, as much down that his head touching the floor for the very crime that he has deceived the nation and its people.
