Former Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar triggered a new controversy while passing on the baton of the state unit to Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday when he remarked that Chief Minister Amarinder Singh handled farmers to head to Delhi to protest against the farmer laws.
Addressing the gathering at Sidhu’s inauguration as the Punjab Congress chief, Jakhar said: “BJP leaders are hiding in their homes because farmers are against the black farm laws introduced by the party. If Captain Amarinder had not handled them aptly and sent these farmers to Delhi against the BJP, we would have had to deal with them and their anger in Punjab. This is one of the biggest achievements of our CM.”
The remarks were latched on to by the BJP which alleged that the remarks proved that the farmers’ protest was politically motivated.
