The Kerala High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the state government over its move to revise the pay for government employees. HC observed it happens only in Kerala that the salaries of the government employees are revised every 4.5 years and it was done fearing the organized vote bank.
Justice Alexander Thomas, while considering a contempt of court plea in connection with land reclamation regulation, raised the sharp criticism against state government.
The government is gearing up for pay revision by troubling the common people. While in other states, pays are revised once in 8 to 10 years, in Kerala it is done every 4.5 years. Instead of understanding the situation, government is fearing organized vote bank. No political party or organization has the courage to raise their voice against it, he added.
For the purpose of financial stability to implement pay revision, government is shifting to load on to commoners. The traffic fines imposed by Motor Vehicle Department is a part of this process, the court further observed.
HC also warned that if required it will intervene in the pay revision process.
