In Meghalaya, the Border Security Force (BSF) today informed that there are reports of Bangladesh nationals crossing back to Bangladesh and are being apprehended by the Bangladesh Border Guards (BGB). But, the sources maintained that none of the incidents took place from the Meghalaya stretch of the international border with Bangladesh.
Briefing the press at the Frontier Headquarters in Shillong, Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier Kuldeep Saini said, the BSF personnel are manning the borders and meetings are being held on a regular basis with headmen for any movements of foreign nationals. The BSF will apprehend if anyone tries to trespass the international border without proper documents, he informed.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Maj. Gen. Md Shafeenul Islam had recently informed that around 1,000 people were arrested in 2019 for illegal border crossings from India to Bangladesh and that 445 Bangladeshi nationals returned from India in the last two months.
