Five Muslim youths were arrested for stabbing to death a 26-year-old scheduled tribe man Rituparna Pegu, a resident of Commerce area of Guwahati, on broad daylight on June 12 evening, reports Northeast Now. The incident took place in the Noonmati area of Guwahati. The accused, identified as Dulal Ali, Ibrahim Ali, Manowara Khatun, Hussain Ali and Arman Ali, were arrested based on CCTV footage of the shop.
According to sources, Pegu had an argument with Hussain Ali, a staff employed at Armaan Home Furnishing owned by accused Armaan Ali. Later, other accused also joined Hussain in brutally stabbing the victim.
According to The Sentinel report, Pegu started the fight after he slapped the accused. Later the other accused overpowered Pegu and Hussain stabbed the victim from behind. The victim immediately collapsed on the roadside and died. He was declared brought dead by doctors.

A Muslim youth Junaid Khan on board a train was killed in a similar manner over dispute over a seat. Later, to add punch to the report, a Hindustan Times correspondent had mentioned that Junaid was killed over beef. To take political advantage, Kerala Chief Minister along with CPI(M) leaders including Brinda Karat visited the house of Junaid in Haryana and donated Rs 10 lakh as relief.
