The Union government today in the Lok Sabha has said that one of the main accused in Kerala gold smuggling case has top-level links. However, the ministry said that they cant disclose the details now, as it would affect the ongoing investigations.
In July, Customs informed the Foreign Ministry about the smuggling of gold through diplomatic baggage. Following this, the Ministry of External Affairs gave permission to open and inspect the bag. A search by customs found 30 kilograms of gold. However, the case led to more shocking details in which people in top-level were found involved.
So fat, sixteen people have been arrested in connection with the case. Centre said that details pertaining to the investigation cannot be disclosed as it will affect the ongoing investigation. The reply also stated that one of the main accused in the case was closely associated with a ‘prominent’ person.
