The wife of Raveendran, a murdered local committee member of CPM, has alleged that he was killed by the party comrades themselves. They say that the local party leadership was behind the murder. They said, they had not disclosed this earlier due to threat to kill the children of the deceased. They added that party hides the matter because they know that some partymen will be in trouble if truth comes out. They told a news channel that they are sure, nothing would have happened to the head of their family sans the party’s knowledge.
Crime Branch, after the enquiry, had reached an assumption that a “quotation team” (hired killers) had hacked Pillai, but the reason was unknown. Raveendran Pillai had recognized that five men named as the accused were not the real attackers. Raveendran Pillai, one of the prominent local leaders of CPM, was attacked on January 3, 2008 at Anchal in Kollam district. He died on Janaury 13, 2016 after lying invalid for 8 years. Pillai’s widow Bindu told that the then party secretary and incumbent CM Pinarayi Vijayan and the then home minister and incumbent party secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had visited Pillai’s home that day and had assured the family that the culprits will be caught soon. But, noting happened. When the family demanded further inquiry, the party leadership did not heed.
The case reminds one the infamous T.P. Chandrasekhran murder of May 4, 2012. The rebel CPM leader was killed by the CPM cadres. But, still the conspiracy behind it remains unearthed, thanks to the compromise politics practised by both CPM-led LDF and Congress-led UDF. TP’s widow Rema still runs from pillar to post for justice.
