As the NIA started investigation on the controversial gold smuggling case in Kerala, the first news that shocked the state was government’s claim that all the CC TV visuals from secretariat have been destroyed by a lightening. Soon after NIA started their probe in an associated case, of the possible scandal in Kerala Life Mission project, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan summoned files associated with the same.
Finally, when there came a situation where the chief secretary was demanded to produce the documents to Enforcement officials, there comes another case of fire – the conspiracy behind what is happening in Kerala could be understood even by a schoolboy! Surprisingly, what a minister in the Pinarayi government said soon after the incident was that people must protest against the opposition’s attempt to spark violent protests in the state.
Kerala Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday demanded a probe by National Investigation Agency into the fire that broke out in the evening at the Secretariat building complex here. Alleging it was a sabotage, Chennithala termed it as a deliberate attempt to destroy evidences and documents relating to the gold smuggling case. He was speaking to media after visiting the spot.
“The probe announced by the government is not acceptable to us. NIA should inquire into the incident,” he said adding UDF will stage a ‘Black Day’ protest state-wide against this.
It is unbelievable that the fire started from the switch of a fan. The fire was reported in three sections of the Secretariat building. Important filed and documents were destroyed. As far as I know, confidential files of political importance and files relating to designating VVIPs were destroyed. The files relating to gold smuggling case probe, political clearances for foreign trips, important files of general administration department and those relating to airlines were gutted,” he added.
As per reports, the fire broke out at around 4.30 p.m. at the general administration department (political) of the state Secretariat.
