CPM leaders who threatened the police personnel on Thursday at Vandiperiyar station are now absconding in a bid to escape arrest. They went into hiding after a non-bailable offence was charged against them.
CPM Idukki district secretariat member R Thilakan, Peerumedu area secretary G Vijayanand and Renil are absconding in connection with the case.
Though initially, minor cases were charged against them, a non-bailable offence was later charged due to the rising protest from the people.
The CPM leaders created a chaos at the police station, giving life threatens to the policemen on duty for taking a DYFI worker’s bike into custody for violating COVID-19 restrictions.
Allegations had raised against the delay in the arrest of the leaders for, the high-ranking police officers were trying to help them get an anticipatory bail. Congress and BJP workers protested in Vandiperiyar against the matter.
