Kerala recorded 58 new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday. Among the new cases 10 are from Thrissur, 9 from Palakkad, 15 from Kannur (7 Air India employees), 4 each from Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, 3 from Kasaragod, 2 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha and 1 from Kottayam.
This also include the result of the COVID-19 positive liver disease patient in Alappuzha who died on Friday.
Out of the 58, 17 had returned from abroad (Kuwait-6, UAE-6, Oman-2, Saudi Arabia-1, Qatar-1 and Italy-1). 31 had returned from other states (Maharashtra-19, Tamil Nadu-9, Telangana-1, Delhi-1 and Karnataka-1). One health worker in Palakkad and two other from Kollam and Palakkad contracted the virus through contact.
Meanwhile the test results of 10 COVID-19 patients turned negative on Saturday. This include 4 from Malappuram including a Palakkad native, 3 from Thrissur and 1 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam and Kannur.
There are 624 active COVID-19 cases in Kerala as of now with 575 recovered.
Till date, 17,720 persons have entered the state via airports and 1621 via seaports while 97,952 crossed the borders to Kerala through checkposts and 9796 on trains. A total of 1,27,089 persons have returned to Kerala.
Meanwhile, 1,30,157 are kept under observation with 1,28,953 in house/institutional quarantine while 1204 in hospitals. 243 have been newly admitted to hospitals on Saturday.
In the last 24 hours, 3206 samples were sent for testing. 65,002 samples including augmented samples were sent for test till date. Out of this 62,543 samples tested negative. Out of the 12,255 samples collected through sentinel surveillance, 11,232 tested negative.
At the same time, 5 more regions have been designated as hotspots. Manikkal in Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad municipality, Thachampara and Pattambi in the district and Madappally in Kottayam were newly added raising the total to 106 in state.
