In Tamil Nadu, 688 people were confirmed Covid-19 positive today surging the total tally to 1244. On the other hand, 489 patients were discharged today leaving the active caseload at 7466. Three patients died of the disease taking the fatalities to 84. Meanwhile, the Southern Railway has helped transport essential supplies to various parts of the country during the lockdown using a special cargo service. More from our correspondent:
Since the beginning of the lockdown, the Southern Railway has seamlessly worked to carry tonnes of essential materials and medical equipment to various parts of the country. The Chennai headquartered railway zone introduced the periodic Parcel Cargo Express Train services to New Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and other cities.
Till Monday, it has transported a whopping 6155 tonnes of materials. On-demand parcel train services were also operated to Punjab and Haryana two times each and transported 1867 tonnes of cotton seeds aiding in agricultural activities. On receiving an encouraging patronage, the Parcel Cargo Express Train service has been extended till this month end.
In addition to running the Shramik Special Trains, the Railway is also helping in ensuring the supply chain of essentials running smoothly. In short, even when the going gets tough, the railways get going.
