As shocking details of Instagram chat group ‘Boys Locker Room’ emerge, the Cyber Crime Cell of the Delhi Police has sought details of Instagram to share the details of all the participants in the controversial group where photos of underage girls were being shared. The Delhi Police launched an investigation on Monday.
‘A group of south delhi guys aged 17-18 types have this ig gc named ‘boy’s locker room’ where objectify and morph pictures of girls their age. 2 boys from my school are a part of it.’
Anish Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cyber Crime, told Indus Scrolls: “We have sought details from the photo sharing app to share the details of the admin, and members. We have also sought details including their names, IP addresses, etc.”
The incident came to light after a South Delhi girl shared a screenshot on Facebook, exposing the said group and scores of similar groups. The girl student wrote: “A group of south delhi guys aged 17-18 types have this ig gc named ‘boy’s locker room’ where objectify and morph pictures of girls their age. 2 boys from my school are a part of it. MY FRIENDS AND I ARE FREAKING OUT THIS IS SO EWWW AND NOW MY MOM WANTS ME TO QUIT IG.”
According to cyber cell officials, there seems to be prima facie a criminal angle in the whole incident as it seems to promote rape culture in India. Some of the comments passed by the boys on girls whose photos appear are vulgar and inappropriate for their age.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women too swung into action and issued a notice to the Delhi Police and Instagram over the issue.
“I saw a screenshot of the “Boys Locker Room” Instagram group. This is a clear example of a gruesome criminal and rapist mindset. We are issuing a notice to Instagram and Delhi Police. All the boys in this group should be arrested,” Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal said.
