Kerala Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran said that there has been a huge revenue loss in his department due to the recent incidents after Supreme Court allowed permissions for the entry of women of all age entering the temple. He said that the loss of revenue has affected the functioning of the entire system where the ministry is running out of money to provide the salaries of its employees.
The financial crisis of the Travancore Devaswom Board has been attributed to the loss of revenue in Sabarimala. The Devaswom minister also informed the Assembly that there is a situation where there is no enough fund to pay salaries of employees or for distributing pensions. The government does not take any form of income from Shabala, but has allotted Rs 100 crore to the Travancore Devaswom Board to overcome the financial crisis, he said.
The financial crisis started as devotees collectively decided not to offer money in temples administered by Devaswom board due to the anti-Hindu stances of the CPM led leftist government. While the majority of women refused to enter the temple even after the supreme court verdict that allows women of all ages entering the temple, the ‘government-sponsored’ anti-Hindu women were taken to Sabarimala to challenge the devotees. This evoked massive protest in Kerala last year.
The Devaswom minister Kadakampally Surendran who challenged Hindu Devotees not only beg people to reject no-donation challenge but also requests devotees to contribute to temples in order to sustain the ministry.
