A group of Muslim thugs attacked three temples and houses of Hindus after a minor student accused a Hindu school principal of blasphemy at Ghotki town in Pakistan’s Sindh province on Sunday.
The radicalised thugs completely destroyed the school. After receiving the complaint, the police registered a first information report against the principal of Sindh Public School, Nautan Kumar. Video footages have emerged which showed a frenzied mob ransacking a Hindu temple in the locality. The panic-stricken Hindu community members remained in their homes fearing attack from members of the Muslim community. The mob blocked roads and attacked shops and business establishments of Hindus.
The Muslim radicals staged a protest and forced a shutdown. According to reports, the police have tightened the security in the city to prevent any untoward incident. Ghotki Senior Superintendent of Police Farrukh Lnjar said that police were bringing the situation under control, a media report said.
Speaking to a local media outlet, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ramesh Kumar Vankwani said Hyderabad Deputy Inspector General Naeem Shaikh will head a probe into these allegations. Speaking about the safety of the school principal, he said the suspect was moved to an undisclosed location for safety reasons and will be handed over to Shaikh.
In a video message, Kumar, who is also president of Pakistan Hindu Council, said “I have talked to Sindh Inspector General of Police Kaleem Imam who has assured me to fully protect the accused. We will hand over the accused either in Karachi or in Hyderabad today,” he added.
In a tweet, the Human Rights Council of Pakistan also expressed concerns on reports of violence against the Hindu community.
