Vishnu, a jawan in Indian Army, was seriously injured when a group of Popular Front activists attacked him while he on the way to a hospital. His friend who accompanied him was also seriously wounded.
According to Vishnu, while he was riding a bike he saw cattle being transported for slaughter in a truck. One of the animals was struggling to find space and was about to fall down. So he asked the boy who was sitting atop the truck to tie the rope properly that the cow could stand properly. When the boy could not do it, Vishnu asked the driver to do it. The youths did not take this kindly. In the meantime, one of the youths alerted some activists of Islamist outfit SDPI. As soon as they entered a Muslim-majority area, a group of youths along with driver and helpers waylaid the jawan and started attacking him with sticks and sharp weapons.
When Vishnu said he was an army man, one SDPI activist said, “You kill our people (Muslims) in Kashmir. We see all that in TV. Now, you pay a price… this is our revenge.”
The following day, a group of masked SDPI men attacked the house of Vishnu and manhandled his mother. She is undergoing treatment in a hospital. “My puja room has been destroyed, doors and windows were broken. It was planned jihadi attack by specially trained SDPI cadre. If I were present there, they would have hacked me to death,” said Vishnu.
Vishnu said even the police were initially trying to put the blame on me. The police also did not follow the standard procedure before arresting an army man.
Meanwhile, the police arrested five SDPI activists in connection with the attack on the jawan’s house. The issue was given a communal colour by News 18 channel.
