IS terrorist’s bride Hoda Muthana regrets what she did wrong and wants to return to her homeland. Hoda Muthana is part of the new documentary “The Return: Life after ISIS” by Spanish filmmaker Alba Sotora Clua.
“When they brainwash you, you don’t understand. So am I. It’s a horrible way of living and I really regret it for the rest of my life and I wish I could erase it,” says Hoda Muthana.
Muthana was a 20-year-old college student in Hoover, Ala., when she fled to join the Islamic State in Syria. She says her path to the terrorist group began when she tried to connect with other Muslim people online.
I didn’t have many friends in high school and I was very shy. I was not allowed to hang out with my friends. I was not allowed to go anywhere, not even to the mall. I was born and brought up in America and what awaited me in the future was an arranged marriage. As my parents wanted, so I had no time to dream anything.”- continued Muthana.
Muthana said that she did not have a good relationship with her mother and that she thought it could be improved because she was more religious.
In Syria, she wanted to find a happy place with Muslims, to help in hospitals, to help in schools, to help a community, and to be good and respectful Muslims to each other. But it was a big mess. It was hell on earth. Really,” said Hoda Muthana.
Hoda Muthana went to Syria to join ISIS in 2014. Then she got married to Suhan Rahman, an Australian Jihadist named Abu Jihad Al Australian.
After joining the Islamic State, authorities determined that Hoda Muthana was not a US citizen and revoked her passport. In 2019, Muthana’s father appealed against the Federal Court’s decision to block her entry. But the Supreme Court rejected the petition without commenting on it.
Hoda Muthana is a woman of Yemeni origin who was born in America. They surrendered in January 2019 to coalition forces fighting ISIS in Syria. Her father was a Yemeni diplomat in the US.
