When ‘anti-fascist’ of Jamia Millia faces real fascism in Kerala

Aysha Renna shot to national fame when her photo pointing a finger at a policeman during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). She was propped up as the ‘shero’ of the protests in the Jamia Millia University protests. Aysha Renna was lauded for her bravery and boldness.

However, the ‘shero’ found, today, that freedom of speech stops at the border of Kerala, which is ruled by the communist government. Here CPI(M) rules the roost and no one can speak against the wishes of the party.

During an anti-CAA protests conducted jointly by CPI(M), Muslim League, and Jammat-i-Islami affiliated Welfare Party, Aysha Renna said that those Jamia Millia students arrested by Pinarayi Vijayan government and his police must be released. This was her mistake and soon the unruly crowd filled with communist activists began to demand her apology.

When she said that she was ready to apologize another demand was put forward by the crowd. The communist goons demanded that her apology must be in Malayalam.

In her apology speech, she requested communist workers not to create an internal conflict among CPI(M), Welfare Party and the Muslim League which are fighting against CAA.

However, after the meeting a group of CPI(M) youth wing burnt the flag of Welfare Party and also raised slogans against Jamaat-i-Islami and Aysha Renna.

Aysha Renna was supported by left-liberal for trying to protect a male protester who hid behind her when the police began to round up those instigating violence. The freedom of speech votaries in the media gave her a huge coverage and tried to make her the face of anti-CAA protests.

However, Aysha Renna experienced real fascism in her home state of Kerala where her left allies are ruling with complete control.

Freedom of speech in Kerala is only for the communists and those who support their world view. Yesterday, the Governor of Kerala, Arif Mohammad Khan, was shouted down by protesters for speaking in support of CAA during the inaugural ceremony of the India History Congress held at Kannur University. Left historian Irfan Habib tried to stop the Governor’s speech and created a scene.

Many other students and delegates also raised placards and raised the police. The security of the Governor was compromised and the protesters were trying to shout him down. However the Governor said that he has the right to speak.
