CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has responded to the criticism against the party over violation of COVID protocol at the district conference in Thiruvananthapuram. Addressing the media here on Sunday, the CPM leader justified the decision to continue the party conference amid the third wave of COVID-19.

He asserted that the COVID-19 protocol was strictly followed during the conference and the public meeting was cancelled in view of the COVID crisis.

“CPM conducted the district conference as adhering to the COVID protocol. If the party conferences are not held, it will affect the democratic system of the party. 300 people are allowed in election commission halls. Because of this, CPM conducted the conference,” explained Kodiyeri.

The party faced strong criticism over conducting the district committee conference in Thiruvananthapuram where COVID-19 cases are increasing at an alarming rate. Recently, Kattakkada MLA IB Satheesh tested positive for COVID-19. Though another CPM delegate was turned COVID positive, he didn’t attend the conference.
