After the intervention of the Central BJP leadership, the state unit of the party on Wednesday served notice to expel party legislator Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion who figured in a viral video showing him dancing two pistols and a carbine.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given warning to elected party representatives to behave themselves. The action is seen as an effort drive home the PM’s message that the party won’t tolerate such activities. State BJP chief Ajay Bhatt served the 10-day notice for expulsion to the MLA. The Opposition Congress has also up the ante against the lawmaker’s behavior.
The Congress is mulling over filing an FIR against the MLA. Congress leader Suryakant Dasmana has sought strict action against Champion.
In the video, Champion is seen dancing to the tune of a Bollywood number and holding a pistol in his mouth and a carbine in one hand while there is one more pistol in the other hand. Holding a glass of whisky, he is even seen allegedly abusing Uttarakhand.
Champion’s video has brought embarrassment to the party. It is learnt that the Central leadership was unhappy with such behaviour. Moreover, the BJP disciplinary committee found him guilty of gross indiscipline and also took cognizance of his alleged threats to a journalist.
A video had gone viral last month also in which Champion, the MLA from Khanpur, was seen threatening an electronic media journalist.
