World famous violin maestro Balabhaskar (40) died during the day break of October 2. He was ventilated in a hospital in the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram after a fatal car accident during the night of September 25. His two year old daughter Tejaswini Bala had died on the spot. Wife Lakshmi is unconscious and still in ventilator and is unaware of the deaths of her husband and child. The accident took place while the family was driving back home at Thiruvananthapuram after having darshan in the famous Vakakkumnadha (Lord Shiva) temple, Thrissur. Bala was unconscious until his last breath.
Bala was a unique violinist who had been bagging prizes and kudos in school and university violin contests. He enjoyed an all time record of being the youngest music director in Malayalam filmdom; he had done his first film work at the age of 17 ! Since then he had done about six films and done music direction for several albums. However he did not show much interest in film work. On the other hand he entered the realm of professional violin. He conducted several programmes abroad. He designed fusion music rubbing the shoulders with the maestros in other instruments. Renowned key board player Stephen Devassy and world famous percussionist Shiva Mani and Chenda veteran Mattannur Sankarankutty were his colleagues in his fusion music. The team has participated in hundreds of shows in Bharat and abroad and thrilled thousands of music lovers.
The sad and untimely demise of the young master has drowned the people of Kerala in a deep ocean of fathomless grief. The whole state is bereaved.
World famous musician Dr. KJ Jesudas described Bala as a real artist; his departure is irreparable.
