Media awards instituted by Indraprastha Vishwa Samvad Kendra were distributed at an august function at India International Centre in Delhi on Saturday (June 29). The Kendra organises the award to commemorate the jayanti of Maharshi Narada, the mythical messenger of the Hindu pantheon.
Union Minister Smriti Irani, RSS Sah Sarkaryavah Dr Manmohan Vaidya and senior journalists graced the function.
Speaking at the function, Irani called for instituting awards for journalists in regional languages. “This will be a great service to the country as well as media profession,” she said.
Dr Vaidya said spirituality was the essence of Indian thought and philosophy. While there is unity in cultural values, it celebrates the diversity present in its varied manifestation. He said media should focus on what is good for the society and not what can be easily saleable as news commodity.
The award for Lifetime Achievement was given to veteran journalist Ram Bahadur Rai. Others who won the awards include Sidharth Zarabi, Richa Anirudh and Arun Kumar Singh. While R Ganesh Krishnan (Organiser) won the award for young journalist, award for TV journalist was presented posthumously to Achyutananda Sahu.
