Mumbai: As Vayu Cyclone turns severe the weather cast warns ‘Very severe’ storm in Mumbai. Nearly three lakh people are expected to be evacuated by Wednesday from the western coastal districts of Gujarat in response to Cyclone Vayu.
Reports suggest that the authorities have been warning people about the cyclone threat through loudspeakers, bulk SMS and WhatsApp messages. All fishing activities across the western coast of Gujarat have been suspended.
Indian Air Force aircraft have been flying National Disaster Response Force teams to the affected areas. Indian Coast Guard has also formed Disaster relief teams and has kept them on alert across the western coastal cities.
“Rescue teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Army, Coast Guard and Border Security Force (BSF) are in readiness. The Ministry of Home Affairs is in continuous touch with the state governments and the Central agencies concerned,” said an official statement from the National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC).
