Unnao rape: Yogi govt ready to recommend CBI probe into Rae Bareli mishap

The ruling BJP government is game for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Rae Bareli car accident on Sunday, which was suspected to have been staged to kill the Unnao woman, who had accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Seengar of raping her. In the accident she was severely injured along with two others after the vehicle she was travelling in collided with a truck on Sunday.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said if the family of the rape survivor wants, his state government will recommend a CBI probe into the accident.

Meanwhile, former UP Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav said that the Unnao rape victim’s accident was a serious case and could be a conspiracy to murder her. He also demanded an impartial CBI probe into the incident. The SP will bear all the expenses of the accident victims’ treatment, Yadav said.

The Congress has also demanded a CBI probe. Alleging conspiracy, SP leader Sunil Sajan said, “This incident raises a lot of questions. We demand a CBI probe. Instead of questioning us for being in the hospital, the Yogi Adityanath government should show some sensitivity. The Uttar Pradesh government was not alert and that’s why this incident has happened.”
