In a move that would benefit 40 lakh people living in unauthorised colonies in the national capital, the Cabinet today approved regularisation of ownership to the people living in these colonies. Though the demand has been a long-standing, successive governments in New Delhi had failed to take a final call on the issue.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said 40 lakh residents of unauthorized colonies will be given ownership, mortgage and transfer rights. He said, 1,797 colonies will be regularized and a bill in this regard will be introduced in the next session of Parliament.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr. Kejriwal thanked the Centre for the decision, saying this was an old demand of the people of the city. He said, his government has invested six thousand crore rupees to bring changes in these colonies.
