Training programme on medical device prototyping

The Department of Biotechnology’s Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) has planned to hold a hands-on training programme for medical device prototyping as part of an exercise to promote design and development of medical devices in the country.

The programme would be held at Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur for five days from January 13 to 17. It will be open to innovators, entrepreneurs, students, and faculty and scientists interested in medical device prototyping.

The participants would have access to state of the art equipment and have an opportunity to connect with mentors and domain experts. The programme would be conducted by the faculty of IIT-Kanpur. It is a sponsored programme of BIRAC including full waiver of programme fee, accommodation and hospitality. The course would cover the various aspects of computer-aided design and manufacturing, rapid prototyping and testing and validation.

Prototyping is an importance step in the design and development of medical devices. During the early design stages particularly it can help generate valuable feedback for the design team, reduce development time and costs, foster potential product enhancement and promote greater customer satisfaction. The programme is being organised under the BIRAC-National Biopharma Mission. (India Science Wire)
