A lot of people are expressing surprise at the resignation of Tom Vadakkan from the Congress and joining the BJP. It has long been known that Muslim and Christian members of the Congress were the closest to their high command – Ahmed Patel and AK Antony to name just two. In fact, Vadakkan was also known to be very close to Sonia Gandhi. But surprisingly immediately after his resignation from the Congress, Rahul Gandhi gave a statement, “Vadakkan? No, no he is not a big leader.” Then, with total nonchalance Gandhi moved on to talking bad about Modi. This is an indication of how Congress now treats Christians, the community which devotedly, all through the years after Independence voted for Congress alone.
The losses in the North Eastern States of Bharat and the losing hold in Andhra and Tamil Nadu, two States which have conversions into Christianity at their peak, shows how the Congress no longer views Christians as their loyal subjects. And this is why with total impunity, they have decided to sideline them. In fact the term ‘Use and Throw’ used by Tom Vadakkan shows how deeply he has understood the working of the present leaders of the Congress. The recent show of affection towards Hindus, the use of Muslims as their permanent vote banks, the insistence of Rahul Gandhi and his coterie to prove that he is a ‘janeu dhari’ even though he is reported to be a Christian, all show how the Congress now feels that Christians do not matter.
The Sabarimala episode rattled a lot of people, not just of the Hindu faith. In Kerala a lot of Christians and Muslims too visit Sabarimala after doing the 41-day Vrat. Such people were not really convinced with the argument that Sabarimala temple was unfair to women. They were also shocked with the blatant disrespect shown to the wishes of the people, by the Communist party. The Congress party was a silent spectator to this. The rape of a nun (Jalandhar Bishop Franco’s case) and of the married woman, by the priests of the Church and the subsequent hushing up of the incidents, also unnerved the community. The attempt to remove the nuns who supported the victim was also viewed with much disgust and though the community was not very vocal, they protested this. The land grab case of Cardinal George Alencherry in Kochi and the futile protests by the priests, also showed the Christians how helpless they were in front of the powerful upper clergy of the Church. In none of these cases, the present Communist government or the Congress party in Kerala, helped the Christians. Now, the Christians of Kerala have realized that they have only been used as pawns by the Congress and that they have no actual voice in the party. The Syro-Malabar Church is one of the richest religious bodies in Bharat.
The Christian community in Bharat has prided itself on education. And many of them have chosen to go abroad to further their education or to settle there. When they go abroad they realize that they do not receive any special favours for being a Christian. Abroad, especially in countries where Whites are the major race, they are only viewed as Indians. And it is only recently, after Narendra Modi coming to power, that they too have been viewed with the same respect that all other Indians receive. The regular Indian Christian does not rejoice when Pakistanis or Islamic terrorists kill our forces. He/she also does not support the ‘tukde-tukde’ gang. In fact I would not be wrong in saying that they are embarrassed when asked about John Dayal and his lies. They have also prided on the fact that they have held high positions in the Armed Forces. And that is why when Tom Vadakkan says that he was deeply disappointed by his party’s “questioning of the integrity of the armed forces” after the air strikes, it sounds true for all Christians.
Yes, I do know that a lot of Hindu bashing especially of Hindu festivals has been done by Leftist-minded Christians and encouraged by Christian schools, but it is also a fact that up to less than 20 years back, Christians also celebrated all the Hindu festivals openly. So then who changed all this? Was it the common man or was it an agenda foisted on the people of Bharat? Those Christians who were converted generations ago due to tortures meted out on them, still remember their past and still follow a lot of old customs till today (especially in Goa and Karnataka). They are embarrassed by the new ways of conversions (the ‘faith’ healing types) and hate being called ‘rice bag converts’. Probably that is why a lot of people especially in the North East are now going back to their old tribal religions, shunning Christianity. They do not want to be a part of that religion which is tricking people into converting, by showing Krishna, Subramanya and Ganesha as Jesus or Durga as Mother Mary. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Christians are trying to learn Sanskrit and are converting their religious books into Sanskrit probably because they are feeling the disconnect between their Holy land and the land of their birth.
The time has now come for the Christians to break free of the commands of the Church to vote for the Congress and to vote for the Party which treats all Bharatiyas as one. Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas.
