TO MY PRINCESS WITH LOVE: Poem by Sushma Nair

Painting: Happy Birthday Abstract Painting by Ronnie Goldberg, Fine Art America

Nine months of speculation and apprehension was not in vain
When I held the heavenly gift all sorrow went down the drain
Time stood still when I beheld this angel in flesh and blood
Instinctively I sensed, of priceless moments there would be a flood
Tiny fingers and tinier toes, a crown of curly auburn hair
Greenish gray sparkling eyes on a face chubby and fair
I pledged an odyssey of love insane and intense
My little fairy smiled in acceptance of this love without pretence

Thus began a journey that is beyond letters and words…
Your gurgles of unadulterated innocence struck a blissful chord
Learning to grip you tugged my hair violently, I winced in pain
You laughed loudly, waving tiny arms, immense pleasure was my gain
Your arms grew to lock around my neck in a heavenly embrace
I knew I needed no other ornament to add to my grace
Years flew past, my little princess has outgrown my lap
But in the chamber of my heart memories remain in a time warp
Those memories of taking you to the kindergarten and playground
Of those times when your little fingers entwined mine in trust profound
You are the cause of the twinkle in my eye and the spring in my steps

I have cherished the privilege to be around to watch your growth step by step
But little by little as you take your own decisions and choose your pathways
The protective circle of my arms will always be there is all I have to say
We are tethered by a divine bond beyond anybody’s imagination
Not defined by the umbilical cord but designed by Almighty’s perception
Every day is a celebration since you came into existence
But today wishing you abundance of joy, is a day of special indulgence
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY NOW HAZEL EYED PRINCESS……..
