Bengali actor-turned-Trinamool Congress MP Nusrat Jahan-Jain has been invited by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) to its Rath Yatra in Kolkata on July 4. However, she is at the receiving end of hate messages from radical Muslims and groups.
Jahan, who married her Hindu Businessman friend Nikhil Jain, was targeted by radical Muslim groups for sporting sindoor and wearing mangal sutra. Besides, she chanted Vande Mataram after she took oath.
Unfazed by the criticism, Jahan accepted the invitation. Accepting the invite, she tweeted: “Thank You @iskconkolkata for the invite. It would be my pleasure to be associated with this inclusive event.”
ISKCON sources said that she showed her secular credentials and the organisation believes that was the way forward to achieving social harmony in the society.
Expressing happiness over her acceptance, Radharamn Das, the spokesperson of ISKCON, tweeted: “ISKCON Kolkata Rath Yatra is an example of that social harmony where the Lord’s chariots are also built by our Muslim brothers. Some of the most beautiful Lords dresses are also made by our Muslim brothers & they are doing it for decades in some of our temples.”
She also shared a video message inviting everyone to be a part of the auspicious event. Thanking the young MP for the gesture, Das wrote: “You are really showing the way forward. Respecting and caring for the belies of others and participating in their festivities and celebrations is a sure way to achieve that elusive social harmony.”
